About

Why The Interactive Learning Channel?

Late in the school year of 2009, I was traveling extensively across the country. My two kids, while great at school overall, required guidance in math and science. As a person with extensive background in math and science, it stood to reason that I should be able to teach and guide my kids in these subjects. As I was hardly home, I created a system that used web-collaboration tools, video conferencing and chat to work with them out of my hotel room.

This worked so effectively that pretty soon my kids were discussing the "cool" way to learn with their friends. When I discussed plans to launch The Interactive Learning Channel with several highly successful business associates, what sold them all on the idea was not the online "tutoring" but how The Interactive Learning Channel was getting highly qualified teachers involved in working with students in a structured online classroom setting with the flexibility of tutoring or mentoring.

Students today are busier than ever between homework, studying, extracurricular activities and responsibilities at home. The Interactive Learning Channel provides the flexibility of any-time tutoring but also reinforces concepts and methodologies that they may have learnt in class but need help with.

Mentors and Teachers

Our mentors or tutors have all been through the trials and tribulations of learning and know exactly what it feels like to be stuck on homework or not understanding concepts that are on a test or exam the next day. All tutors go through an extensive background check and aptitude test on the subject they want to tutor. All tutors undergo a training session on effectively using all the available tools within The Interactive Learning Channel.

Our teachers are state certified and have several years of experience teaching in the grades they have signed up for. Each teacher has the authority to edit training material to suit the pace and ability of the students in the class. At the end of each month all students in a class take a short quiz which is then discussed in class. This allows the teachers to gauge the pace as well as comprehension by the students. A report is sent via email to parents to show progress or discuss additional tools to help their children excel in the classroom.

We serve families and schools

The Interactive Learning Channel's mission is to provide a strong academic foundation to students from the 4th grade to 12th grade. We feel that around the 4th grade is when the academic material requires some students to require help. By the 12th grade, the student's foundation should be strong enough so that when they enter college, they are prepared to meet with the academic challenges they will face.
